The grandaddy of them all will showcase a classic battle of old school versus new school when the Joe Paterno coached Penn State Nittany Lions travel to the Coliseum to take on the USC Trojans.
The Nittany Lions lost a single game this season - - to the Iowa Hawkeyes - - and will be looking to upset the Trojans as 9 point underdogs.
USC, of course, lost to the lowly Oregon State Beavers. So, who has the upper hand in this game?
USC supposedly has one of the best defenses ever assembled in college football. Okay. Then how did they give up 23 points to Oregon State and 21 to Stanford?
Penn State's defense isn't too bad itself. The Nittany Lions' D gave up 24 points in two games this season. In every other game they played they gave up 18 or less.
As far as offense is concerned, I really like Daryll Clark at QB for the Lions and that Penn State offensive line.
I'm going with Penn State to beat the spread in the 2009 Rose Bowl. I believe that USC's defense isn't that much better than Penn State's and that the Nittany Lions' offensive line should be able to push them around in the fourth quarter.
